Murali (Muraleedharan Pillai ) is considered one of the greatest actors in the Malayalam Film Industry.
Murali debuted in films with the lead role in Njattadi (1979), directed by Bharath Gopi, but the film was never released. Aadhaaram (1992) directed by George Kittu, was the first film to be released with Murali in a lead role.
He has acted in over 100 films, including some Tamil, Telegu and Hindi films as well
He was also the former Chairman of Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy.
He completed pre degree from M.G. College, Thiruvananthapuram.
Later he studied for Degree in Devaswom Board College, Sasthamkotta.
After the degress, he took an LL.B from the Kerala Law Academy Law College, Thiruvananthapuram.
He has won various awards including the National film award for Best Actor in 2001 and 6 Kerala State Film Awards.
Murali was born to P. Krishna Pillai and K. Devaki Amma.
Murali married his first cousin Mini and has a daughter Karthika.
Murali followed communist party; He contested the 1999 Lok Sabha elections from the Alappuzha Loksabha constituency but lost.
