About Anju Bobby George

Anju Bobby George is the first and only Indian athlete to win a World Championships Medal. She made history in 2003 when she won the bronze medal in the long jump, jumping 6.70 m at the World Championships in Athletics in Paris.

Education

She did her schooling in CKM Koruthode School. She later graduated with a Bachelors degree in economics from Vimala College.

Awards and recognitions

She received the Arjuna award in 2002–2003 for eminent sportspersons from the government of India. In 2003–2004 she was awarded Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna( the country's highest sporting honour ) for her success in the World Athletic meet. She was conferred Padma Shri ( India's fourth-highest civilian) award in 2004.

In March 2021 she was awarded BBC Lifetime achievement award.

Family life

Anju was born to K.T. Markos and Gracy. She is married to Robert Bobby George, who is a former national champion in the triple jump and her coach. The couple has a son Aaron and a daughter Andrea.
