Kamal whose real name is Kamaluddin Mohammed Majeed, is a director, screenwriter and producer who works in the Malayalam film industry.
He made his directorial debut in 1986 with the movie ‘Mizhineerppoovukal’. During his career, he directed over forty films till now.
He is the current Chairman of Kerala State Chalachithra Academy (Motion Picture Academy of the Kerala State)
Kamal won three National Film Awards for the movies ‘Celluloid’, ‘Karutha Pakshikal’ and ‘Perumazhakkalam’. He also won a total of seven Kerala State Film Awards for various movies.
Kamal was born to the late K.M. Abdul Majeed and late Suleikhabi. He married his first cousin Saburabi and have two children, Jenuse Mohamed and Hanna Shanu.
Apart from being a director, screenwriter and producer, Kamal held several administrative posts related to Film Industry. He is currently the president of the Kerala Film Director’s Union (FEFKA) and is the chairman of Kerala Chalachithra Academy.
