KJ Yesudas is a cultural icon of Kerala, he is one of the greatest singers in the history of Indian Music. Yesudas Started his career in 1961 and over the last 6 decades, he is estimated to have recorded more than 50,000 songs in various Indian languages. He has also cameoed in over 10 films during this time.
He has won several awards during his career, notably - Padma Shri in 1975 (the fourth-highest civilian award of the Republic of India), Padma Bhushan (The third-highest civilian award in the Republic of India) in 2002, Padma Vibhushan ( the second-highest civilian award of the Republic of India) in 2017. He has also won eight National Awards for Best Playback Singer.
K. J. Yesudas is the eldest of five children. He was born to Augustine Joseph and Elizabeth Joseph. His father was a well-known Malayalam classical musician and stage actor. He is married to Prabha Yesudas. They have three sons, Vinod, Vijay and Vishal. Their second son Vijay Yesudas is also a musician.
He has won Kerala State Film Award for Best Singer a record 25 times for the best playback singer.
