Mamta debuted in the 2005 Malayalam film Mayookham. During her career as an actress, she has acted in more than 50 films. Along with Malayalam films, she is also popular in Tamil and Telugu films. Mamta is a cancer survivor. In November 2020, she launched her own production company Mamta Mohandas Productions.
She attended the Indian School, Bahrain until 2002. She pursued a bachelor's degree in computer science at Mount Carmel College Bangalore. Mamta is trained in Karnatic and Hindustani music.
She won Second Best Actress at the Kerala State Film Awards in 2010 for the film Kadha Thudarunnu.
Mamta was born to Mohandas and Ganga in Kannur. Mamta married Prajith Padmanabhan on 28 December 2011. The couple applied for divorce On 12 December 2012.
Mamta is an acclaimed playback singer and first sang playback in the Telugu film Rakhi.
