Pranav Mohanlal made his acting debut in 2002 with a minor role in the film Onnaman followed by a leading role in Punarjani in the same year. In 2005 Pranav returned to the film industry as an assistant director and worked in two films—Papanasam and Life of Josutty. He has acted in about 7 films so far. Pranav maintains a low-profile lifestyle. He is known for avoiding the media.
Pranav completed his schooling in the Hebron School in Ooty, Tamil Nadu. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in philosophy from the University of New South Wales in Australia.
He won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Child Artist for the role in Punarjani in 2002. He also won the Kerala Film Critics Association Award and SIIMA Award for Best Debut Actor for the film Aadhi.
Pranav was born to the actors Mohanlal and Suchitra Balaji. He has a younger sister, Vismaya Mohanlal. He is the grandson of Tamil film producer K. Balaji
He wrote, sang and performed the English song "Gypsy Women" in the film Aadhi.
