Sreenivasan is an actor, screenwriter, director and producer. Sreenivasan debuted in 1977 in the movie Manimuzhakkam. Since then he has starred in over 225 films.
He is considered among the best screenwriters of Malayalam cinema and has written over 50 films.
Sreenivasan passed away on December 20, 2025 (at the age of 75), after being ill with Triple Vessel Disease.
Sreenivasan completed his formal education at Kuthuparamba Middle School and Government High School, Kadirur. He received a bachelor's degree in economics from PRNSS College, Mattanur. In 1977, Sreenivasan studied at the Film and Television Institute of Tamil Nadu, Chennai.

Sreenivasan's father's name is Thalassery Paadiyathu Unni, mother's name is Lakshmi. He has a sister and two brothers. His mother was a homemaker and his father was a school teacher.
Sreenivasan is married to Vimala, a school teacher (retired). His elder son Vineeth Sreenivasan, is a director, lyricist, playback singer, dubbing artist and actor. His younger son, Dhyan Sreenivasan is also an actor and director.
