Fazil (Aleksa Muhammed Fazil)

Fazil (Aleksa Muhammed Fazil) is a film director, producer, screenwriter and actor. He has predominantly worked in the Malayalam film industry and also in Tamil and Telugu. He made his debut by directing the movie ‘Manjil Virinja Pookkal’ in 1980, which is an evergreen hit. Over the last four decades, he has directed over 30 films and has produced about 9 films. As an actor, he has made an appearance in about 5 films. His popular works include movies like ‘Ente Mamattikkutiyammakku’, ‘Nokkethadhoorathu Kannum Nattu’, ‘Harikrishnans’, ‘Manichithrathaazhu’, etc.

Fazil studied at Sanathana Dharma College in Alappuzha.

He won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment for ‘Manichitrathazhu’. He also won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Director in 1983.

Fazil is married to Rosina and the couple has four children: Fahad, Farhaan, Fathima and Ahmeda. Fahad and Farhaan are actors in the Malayalam film industry. Fahad is married to actress Nazriya Nazim.

Fazil’s parents wanted him to be a doctor. But he showed great interest in writing plays and staged them with his friends. He was part of one of the first mimicry troops in Kerala which entertained crowds.
