Indrajith made his acting debut in the 1986 film Padayani as a child artist. Since then he has gone on to star in nearly 100 films.
He was working as a trainee in a software company when he entered into the film career. He later quit the job to pursue a career in film.
He is also a playback singer with about 9 songs to his name.
He completed his school education at Sainik School Kazhakoottam. Later he did his bachelor's in Computer science engineering from Rajaas Engineering College in Tirunelveli district.
Indrajith was born as the elder son of actors Sukumaran and Mallika Sukumaran. Indrajith married actress Poornima Mohan in December 2002. They have two daughters Prarthana Indrajith and Nakshatra Indrajith.
His brother Prithviraj Sukumaran is also a well-known actor.
He was the captain of Tennis team while studying at Sainik School Kazhakoottam.
